Fitbit is arguably one of the best activity trackers on the market today. Their Versa series of activity trackers they also call smartwatches, has a new version, Versa 2.
The watch comes in a waterproof design, has built-in sleep features like Sleep Score and Smart Wake, and then Fitbit promises that even more advanced health, exercise and smart features have come.
But there’s more to Versa 2.- Now there’s a microphone built in that lets you control the clock and some of its features with your voice.
In addition, there’s a Spotify app on the watch and Fitbit Pay, so you can pay with Versa 2 as well.
One of Fitbit’s big problems when it comes to the concept of smartwatch is that their ecosystem is very limited compared to both Google Play and Apple’s App Store. Fitbit says that there are now ‘thousands of apps and watches’. It may sound like a lot – but it’s still very limited compared to competitors.
The screen should have been enhanced with a brighter, clearer screen, which now offers an ‘always-on’ feature.
There is no doubt that what really makes Fitbit’s products very attractive is its battery life. They promise up to five days of battery life, and their older watches had a similar battery capacity, so it should fit.
Tracking Sleep
One of the things that really means a lot to health is its sleep, both the quantity and the quality. Fitbit has long been able to track how much you sleep, but now there are new features in the watch that track your sleep even more.
- Sleep Score gives you points for your sleep quality every night. The score is based on heart rate (sleep and rest), restlessness, awake time and sleep stages.
- Smart wake uses machine learning to wake you up at the optimum time in your sleep cycle – ie where you are in REM sleep or light sleep.
- Sleep Mode disables your screen and turns off notifications so your sleep is not disturbed by the watch during the night.
- The Estimated Oxygen Variation Graph, coming soon in the Fitbit app, provides an estimate of the oxygen level variations in your bloodstream. The data gets clocked from a combination of red and infrared sensors on the back of your device.
In addition, there is a Fitbit Pay feature so you can use the watch to pay with – where it is now supported. It is not interesting in Denmark, as this function is not supported here. However, you can pay clockwise on the transport systems: New York MTA OMNY, TransLink in Vancouver, Transport for London (TfL) and Singapore Land Transport Authority.
Spotify is to be found on the watch – but it works best for Spotify Premium subscribers, allowing you to manage your playlists, etc. directly from the wrist.
Better screen
Fitbit promises that you can get mobile notifications on Versa 2 so you can see app, call, calendar and text notifications on the watch. If you use Android, you can reply to messages at the same time by dictating to Versa 2.
The watch has an AMOLED display that gives you better colors so you can easily see the dial in all weather conditions.
Versa 2 can be pre-ordered on Fitbit.com from today, and the price is DKK 1,599 in the colors black with carbon black frame and pink with rose gold aluminum frame and gray with gray frame. There is also a Versa 2 Special Edition for 1,799 kroner, and here you can choose the colors dark blue and pink with rose gold aluminum frame and dark gray frame – yes the right colors are expensive.
