Now comes the Palm – ultra-mobile smartphone

Smartphones tend to grow bigger and bigger. But Palm has another plan. They have reinvented the smartphone, and launched an almost microscopic one

It’s Brian Heater at Techcrunch.com who has been allowed to look into the new mini-smartphone. It was launched today, and according to the pictures it is very small. In fact, the phone has a screen of only 3.3 “, which is a total of 0.2″ less than the very first iPhone.

But those of us who remember the old Palm Pilots, also remember that the thought was that it should fit in your hand. And that applies to the new Palm. It fits quite nicely in your hand.

Now, size does not matter, and it also applies to Palm – although it has become very small, the price is actually quite high. $ 349 is what you need to pay, if you want the new smartphone, and so far, it can only be purchased in the United States with a Verizon subscription.

Personally, I would hardly ever invest in a smartphone of that size. First, I cannot read the text on such a small screen (anymore), and my big fingers will not be able to operate the keys at all.

And that is also one of Brian Heater’s complaints. He says it’s very hard to get used to writing anything on the small screen.

Conversely – if you need to run with your smartphone, it will be much easier to bring than your 6.5” big iPhone Xs Max.

Palm runs on Android 8.1, however, with a simple small change that makes you go directly to the app tray, never seeing the desktop. Here you can arrange your apps as needed and because it’s a full version of Android running on Palm, there are also full versions of apps located here – not the small versions you know from WearOS.

It is rated for IP68 and has an 800mAh battery, which is surely more than enough for such a smartphone.

The micro-mobile comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of memory, and runs on a Snapdragon 435 processor. Not very impressive, right? But again – you have a micro-mobile here, so you cannot really demand more – besides a better price point.

You can se more pictures of the new Palm here.
