First there was one, then there were two and until recently three were the maximum number of lenses that were used on any smartphone. But Samsung apparently has a minority complex compared to Chinese Huawei, because they have just sent their mid-range mobile phone, A9, on the street and it has no less than four cameras on the back.
But – is it really necessary with so many cameras on a mobile phone? Do you take better pictures for that reason? My assessment is not. You see – the world’s best drawing program still does not make me a good artist, and if all the back of the camera was covered in lenses, you would still not take pictures with a nice composition.
Now – I’m probably just tired of the camera race. So let’s just take a look at what Samsung is bringing in their A9.
There is 2x optical zoom for detailed close-ups. Well – I’ve seen 3x optical zoom on the Huawei P20 Pro, so nothing impressive here.
It has an ultra wide-angle lens and Scene Optimizer software and the built-in AI can recognize and adjust image settings depending on what it sees. Good but far from innovative, has seen it in many mobiles.
Give creativity free play through the depth section, which gives more freedom to manually set screen depth and focus.
Take crisp and bright images in both bright and dark environments with the 24MP headliner.
So much for the camera. Right off the bat I would say that there is nothing here that I can not get in cameras with far fewer lenses built in.
But they have put a nice big battery into the cell phone. 3.800 mAh is actually pretty nice and wit comes with 128GB of internal storage that can be upgraded to 512GB with a microSD card.
Oh – and Samsung insists on giving us Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant, Samsung Pay and Samsung Health.
The Galaxy A9 builds on Samsung’s design and comes in two colors: Caviar Black and Lemonade Blue. Galaxy A9 has an ergonomic design with curved backside in 3D glass.
